Hello I’m Rhiannon

Welcome to Enlightened Parenthood

I am a Psychologist, the Director of Enlightened Parenthood and a Mum of 3 beautiful children.
As a Perinatal Psychologist and Relationship Therapist I have devoted my clinical practice to supporting parents to navigate the joys, changes and challenges throughout their parenthood journey.

I love my children and cherish being a mum but I too have struggled with the transition to parenthood. The emotional rollercoaster, self-doubt, worry, loss of my own identity amongst the sleep deprivation and relentless tasks of mothering all took its toll on my mental health. My relationship with my husband has also hit many bumps along the way. At a time where we really needed to be on the same page and connected, we were drifting further apart.

No one tells us how parenthood involves changes and challenges in every aspect of our lives. The transitions we all go through with how we look, feel, see ourselves and the relationships with those nearest and dearest to us. But due to a combination of a lack of good quality support and unrealistic expectations, many of us are blindsided by these shifts and are left wondering “who am I now?” and “what happened to us?”

“Parenthood is full of polar opposites.  We can feel such intense love but at the same time sadness and loneliness like never before. Unexplainable levels of joy and happiness met with anger, resentment and boredom”

I have a special interest in supporting mums experiencing emotional distress, in particular anger, frustration, disappointment, feeling out of control and chaotic. Without the support and guidance parents deserve we are quickly left feeling guilt, shame and regret when our parenthood journey is not going how we planned.

Becoming a parent highlights any emotional issues from our relationships and experience of being parented. I work with both parents to untangle and process these experiences, to help you parent mindfully, strengthen the bond with your children and deepen the relationship with your partner.

Parenthood creates a fundamental shift in the relationship with your partner, leaving many parents feeling disconnected, unsupported and arguing more than ever. I work hard to help couples improve how they communicate and connect so they feel loved, supported, appreciated and work well together to raise their family.

I work with parents, couples and families from a client-centred, attachment and developmental framework. I also incorporate broader societal influences on our experience of being mothers, fathers and how we parent our children.

I offer all families a supportive, safe and judgement-free space to explore their concerns, while uncovering evidence-based strategies to reduce emotional distress and strengthen your relationships.

I am a transparent and collaborative Psychologist and pride myself on doing therapy “with you”, not “on you”. Throughout our time together you will feel seen, heard, understood, validated and nurtured. Because sometimes giving to our children leaves little left to give to ourselves.
